Mahala Chilson-Artist Statement

Art is valuable because it tells a story in a different way than an audience would typically hear. Art conveys messages and emotions unlike anything else. Color has always been important to me. It is a powerful tool that is used to create meaning. Color is one of the many reasons I create art because I am able to use different colors to show my creation.

As an artist, I enjoy finding inspiration and turning it into my own style of art. I also enjoy the process of brainstorming how I might include a specific detail I want to showcase in my work. I always create aesthetic color schemes and textures in my work. My favorite medium is watercolor painting and acrylic painting. I love the effects these mediums create.

For me, my art represents peace and beauty because of the technique of the pieces and the overall result. As an artist, I am able to create work that sheds light on a bigger issue. The environment is a very important topic for me and I want my artwork to show others the beauty of the natural environment. I am committed to always putting in my best work and problem-solving to complete a project for the best result.
